Click the “開始”icon at the lower left hand corner , look for “程式集”, and move your pointer to “Window NT檔案總管”at the right hand column. Click “Window NT檔案總管”once with the left button of your mouse, Click “D” drive (or C drive) once, and then click “檔案”,and point to “開新檔案”, Click “資料夾”, now you will see the highlighted “新資料夾”, Type the name(for example Homepage) you want on the highlighted portion, a folder called “Homepage” will hence be created. Press “Enter” key once. Now you will see the name “Homepage” under the hard disc drive D (or C). All files concerning your homepage should be saved under “Homepage” for your convenience.

Open a web site, click the image that you want to copy by pressing the right button of your mouse once. Move the pointer to “另存圖片”and press the left button once, and save the image in your hard disk D under the name “Homepage”. You may change the name of the image if you wish by typing the name you want on “檔案名稱” .

Insert the FrontPage98 CD into the disc drive, click the “我的電腦” icon, you will see FrontPage98 icon on your screen marked (F) underneath, Double click the icon with the left button of your mouse, and double click the “set up” icon (the icon shows a computer with a book next to it), then you will come up to a picture with two buttons on the lower right hand corner. Click the default button (“Next”) with the left hand button of your mouse, you need to click the default button “Next” or “Yes” for several times.

Fill in CD Key (for example 4156 0077151) and click button “ OK”. FrontPage98 will be installed by clicking more “Next” and “Yes” default buttons.

4. How to write a new homepage by using FrontPage98

1. Click the dot next to the “Create a New FrontPage” and click the “OK” button below


(ii) How to create your homepage under the folder name “Homepage”:

Click the white dot next to One Page Web, and click the “Change” button. Type the words”D:\Homepage”, click “OK” Button, Your homepage will be created under the folder “Homepage”



(iii) How to begin writing your homepage:



Click “Folder” at the top left hand corner, and click “File” at the top, move your pointer to “New” and then move your pointer to the right hand side of the word “Page”. Click the word “Page”, then you will see a highlighted portion with the name “newpage1.htm”, double click the icon on its hand side, you will see a screen with the word “Banner”. Move your pointer to the word “Format” and move your pointer down to the word “Theme”, click this item, and click the dot next to the word “The Page does not use Theme”, then click the “OK” button. You may begin writing your homepage below the dotted line, the Banner may be deleted for more space without minding all the words on this page.

(iv) How to save your homepage:

After writing your homepage, click the word “File” at the top left hand corner and click “save as”, fill in the name of your homepage, the name must be ended with “.htm”, for example, “oscartam.htm”, and also fill in the title you want, for example: New Page 1.

Click “OK” button to start saving.

5. How to write a beautiful homepage using Frame

(i) Open a new FrontPage, Go to “Fomat” and look for the “Theme”, click the title and click the white dot next to the “This page does not use Themes”, then click the “OK” button at the lower right hand corner

Click the title “Frame” at the top of the screen, and click the “New Frame Page”.



Choose the frame you want and click “確定”.

Now you may start writing your homepage by clicking the “New Page” icons on the 3 different areas.

2. Click “Save As” to save this kind of homepage. The first part belongs to the whole screen, you should assign the name “Whole.htm” for the whole screen, and assign the name “Left.htm”, “Top.htm” and “Rght.htm” for the left portion, the top portion and the right portion respectively. If there is any change in any portion, you simply type the name of that portion, for example, Left.htm and make amendment, and you must use “Save” instead of “Save As” to save that portion again.
3. All portions should be uploaded, and the Whole.htm must be renamed to index.html in order to have a direct access to your web site.

(iv) If you want to upload your photo to your web site, make sure it must be in jpeg format, for example, myphoto.jpg.

Go to the web site http://www.tripod.com (This web site may offer you space for your homepage by clicking the “Sign in” icon and you will be given a password for uploading your homepage after filling in all data on the application form.)

Now click the word “Help” at the top right hand corner of the screen. Click the “Uploading Files” on your left hand column and look for the words “WS-FSTP”, click this item, you will come up to a screen showing the FTP WS-FTP icon,

Click the “確定” button to start downloading the FTP, then just click the “存檔” button, the FTP will be saved under “桌面”. It takes only a few minutes to download the whole file into your hard disc.

Look for the icon SFX on 桌面, click the SFX icon, then click “GO” extraction, click “Exit” button to exist. Look for the “FTP install” icon to install, click the icon to start installation. Now go to “開始” and move your pointer to “程式集” to look for the icon “WS_FTP95LE” and click this icon

Fill in the host name, for example, ftp.tripod.com

User ID, for example, tamyiupui

Password, for example, xxxxxx. You may also fill in the Remote Host if it exists, for example, ftp.tripod.com. Finally click the “確定” icon to activate the function.

On your left hand column, click the icon “ChgDir”, and type out the name of your folder, now you may highlight the file that you want to upload, and click the arrow sign to start uploading.

Don’t forget to rename your whole.htm to index.html for direct access. Now you may see your homepage on the web site http://members.tripod.com/~tamyiupui

If you did not rename your whole.htm to index.html, you have to type

http://members.tripod.com/~tamyiupui/whole.htm to see your homepage.

When you want to upload your newly updated file, you have to delete the original file on the right hand column and upload the file by highlighting the newly updated file on your left column, you have to make use of the arrow to upload the file. Finally click “Exit” button to exit.
